Maratona di Roma 2014
10th official IMFR Marathon
Beautiful City, beautiful Marathon course and fantastic organization!
If you’re looking for the ideal combination of athletic challenges and a great weekend of sightseeing, Rome Marathon is the place to go. The start line is placed in front of the 2,000 year old Colosseum, and from here the course is a veritable festival of magnificent sights. Among other things, you will run past Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps and through a lot of picturesque, narrow streets in the old part of the city.
The course is surprisingly flat for a city built on seven hills, but the sometimes uneven cobblestone streets, which in the narrowest places can feel quite crowded, may add a few extra minutes to your finish time.
The Rotarian package (Pasta Party, Runners Shirt and Farewell Dinner, optional city tour etc.) may be booked additional; our Italian friends are still working on it. The highlight we never had before: We possibly have the chance to start in the first row with the professionals.
From a Rotarian's point of view this run is quite special. The Rotary District 2080 (Rome / Sardinia) is avidly supporting the Rome Marathon and will be participating with many friends from the district. All Rotarian runners will be equipped with a Rotarian running shirt bearing our pledge to "End Polio Now". This is the main objective of this event as perceived by the Rotarian runners. The district intends to support the cause by transferring 100 Euros to the Rotary International account for each Rotarian participant in this marathon. Registration is to be handled directly by the District 2080 so that our runners will enter the contest collectively as the IMFR-Group.
Please send all registration documents as well as the mandatory health certificate to our Treasurer Joachim Bekedorf who is also at your disposal for any questions concerning the event.
The total cost for entrance fees, running shirt and the donation is Euro 150 for each runner.
As in the past, we will stage the popular and exclusive Pasta Party for IMFR participants on the evening before the running event and the traditional Farewell Party that Sunday night. Both events can be booked separately. More information will be provided well in advance. Thanks to the support of the Rotary District 2080 we expect this event to be highly successful. And truly, what better way to experience the popular saying : "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!"
Rome Marathon 2014: The entire IMFR Board is looking forward to seeing you there.
The Eurostars International Palace Hotel - 4-stars
The Eurostars International Palace has the spirit and hallmark of Italian unity. It is set in a neo-classical palace and is located on the Via Nazionale, a street opened in 1870 precisely to symbolize the birth of a new society.
The hotel has recently been refurbished in order to offer the guests the maximum comfort and modern-style living; however, a large part of the common areas maintain their original style and décor, taking us back to the times of the struggle for unification. The entrance hall to the palace welcomes guests with its gold-inlaid stuccoed ceiling.
The historic Rome hotel is located very central - 100 metres from the Piazza della Repubblica, the Piazza Venezia and Trevi Fountain are 500 metres away, the Colosseum about 1 km. The finishers will have their shower in walking distance from the finish line to our marathon hotel about 10 minutes.
